Totally agree with all the above as neurotic consciensous people get taken for a BIG ride in the org, I know this firsthand. Everything I do I give my all, perfect recipe for disaster when you come across narcissistic, micro- managing, controlling power tripping people. The guilt button is huge on us and we are easy prey for manipulation of all sorts. I learnt to stand up for myself and not be so easily intimidated from this bad experience. A big in your face double biceps, pecs out head high body language makes them back down real quick, all it takes so sad and so silly. Thing is I though I was doping the right thing until I realized I was being worn down for everyone but myself. Didn't Jesus say his yoke was kindly and light ?
So getting walked all over and being a YES man to all led me to a suicidal burnout and adrenal fatigue, which has symptoms very similar to 'fibro myalgia' .I know quite a few sisters that claim to suffer from it.
Watch out for the sons of Boanerges in the halls, they are out to control you for their benefit and agenda !

Staying active any doing sports / training is what helps me most. That and shedding weight, sleep and diet. I was at risk for stroke, got to the point I was at 175 for a while. Now I run / jog near daily with intervals once or twice a week and lift, cycle or ski. No need to be a pro athlete, simply keeping active just works. That and having healthy personal barriers, an alien concept to most JW's
As of this morning BP 110/70 with 67 RHR and 25+ lbs lost since last year. Isagenix prods. got me there on the fast track as well.

Last night's bible highlights: David was wrong to greive for his son!
by purrpurr inlast night's bible highlights was really eyebrow raising!
the brother pointed out at lenght about how david had wept when his son absalom was killed.
but that because absalom was killed while opposing jehovah that means that david was wrong and weak to greive for him.. it was applied to today by saying that if our children are df'd when they die then we should not grieve for them either!.

I once did the Bible reading of that verse back then and used emphasis on my son, my son ! It all seemed perfectly natural at the time, unreal that they now think David was out of line. What I took away from it then was David's forgiveness towards his son despite the revolt. -

What was your eye opening moment?
by WasOnceBlind inif you had to pinpoint the time or experience that finally made you open your eyes, what would it be?.
i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.
i thought to my self "no way jesus would do that.

For myself the constant grind of busywork, meeting attendance and just not fitting into the norm. I run my own business and trying to keep up with everything became too much after a while. Am the type that gives my all when I decide to do something which led to suicidal depression and burn out. Just when I was ready to examine spiritual matters again a good friend of mine that had a similar experience shed me some light on TTATT and followed up with research finding Beroean Pickets, Parimeno and Jordly.com which confirmed what I had always suspected.

Do you consider this site Godly or Ungodly
by Truthexplorer inover the years, i have seen a change in heart with the country i grew up in and the general view of what they perceive as how everyone should view things in relation to morality.
a strictly religious country for centuries now forever changed within a short number of years.
i have also seen the viewpoint on this site gradually change in many ways.

How many times were you told, "You Just Don't Qualify Yet to be an Elder"
by John Aquila inyou think it's the holy spirit that appoints the elders, at least that's what new jw males are told.
the culture within the organization dictates to all young male jehovah's witnesses that unless you are an elder, you will not get the sultry, passionate- brunette, the voluptuous, curvaceous,- blond, or the seductive, erotic, red headed-vamp..
so unaware of the social forces that are shaping your mind, you succumb to the dictum issued by the governing body to conform to the structure already in place- if you want to be successful.

All I could think is that the 'shepherd' looks reasonably fit and good looking.....
Most elders I served with were pushing 300 lbs. and alcoholics....
Enh, just details... LOL
I noticed lots of obese people in the org, more so than in regular society.
Is this fairly common though out the US / Canada ?

John, reminds me of the episode where it was our book study's turn to clean the toilets and the elder that had that book study was busy with the others in the meeting room. At one point I must have gotten irritated and slammed the bucket around a little ( ajoining wall to meeting room ) as he came out and explained he had had business to take care of and would help after, which was just a quick token wipe down of counter tops.
To be honest when I was new it felt like a priviledge at first.
I was on the fast track to being a MS within the same year following my baptism, what burnt me out in the end was the weekday night meetings, they just became too much for me to handle after a while. Just the thought of one now gives me anxiety. I recall that whenever it was announced that the MS and elders had to gather for another meeting on a different night it would make me think of never being able to step up to the plate so to speak. Glad it didn't happen.
Oh and yes being single myself the get a position and have access to a hot sister for marriage was very much out there and in vogue. What a weird bunch to say the least, all due to a bunch of men in NY fancying themselves as God's mouthpiece.

Infuriating Elder recorded on JWStruggle
by dhlpcjw inhelp from a loving jehovah's witness elder part 1. this elder is clearly out of touch with all emotion period as this poor girl pours her heart out to him.
can these untrained, unloving, pharisees possibly be fit to represent a god of love?
a god of anything?

I called an elder once when I was severely distressed, as in suicidal. Sounded exactly like this guy on the other end of the phone coupled with an explanation on how he was putting some honey in his tea when I had called him and that it was good and hot. All this coupled with sounds of exhaling appreciatively whilst drinking it. Either he was being passive aggressive in an effort to get back at me for perceived wrongs or just plain dumb and clueless as to the situation. The latter being the most likely. True incompetence.
